Diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorders consist of multiple elements. They begin with an interview with the parents about the child’s development.
The parents are also interviewed about the child’s adaptive functioning, which includes communication, self-help, social, and motor functioning.
With the child, Dr. Sutera assesses the child’s developmental level or cognitive ability, and an assessment of the child’s social functioning and reciprocal interaction is done in a fun, play-based format.
